After wing closing and before removing the wing from the jig, install the wing tips, ailerons, and flaps in that order. We found it helpful to add to the wing jig what we call the “aft chord line board.” This assures the accuracy in the installation of these parts.
1) Aft chord line board: this must be straight. We ripped 4″ wide pieces from a flat sheet of 3/4″ plywood using a table saw.
The board runs from the outboard end of the extended tips to the inboard end of the flaps. Section the board between the aileron and the flap, the outboard section will be removed several times during the construction of the ailerons. Attach the board to the wing jig using wood screws. The top of the board must match the wing chord line. The aft edge is to match the trailing edge of the wing tip, aileron, and flap.
To locate the chord line, see Wing Assembly, page C-9, 11-5 manual:
2) Aluminum angles 1/8 x 1/8 x 1-1/2 x 12″ long cleco to bottom of wing to support leading edge of flaps. Space between slotted flap hinges.
3) Flap panel supports, wood, approximately 3/8 x 1-1/4 x 1/4, hot glue to aluminum angles and aft chord line board. Hold flush to top of both, locate on approximately 12″. Close flap panels while in jig.
