Glasair Aviation announced recently that the company received a LODA (Letter of Deviation Authority) to conduct flight training in their experimental aircraft.
A LODA authorizes airplane owners to operate their experimental aircraft for hire for the purposes of type-specific training.
Glasair developed a transition training program and applied for the LODA in direct response to recommendations made to the industry by the NTSB in their 2012 study into safety of Experimental AmateurBuilt Aircraft (NTSB/SS-12/01).
Flight training considered acceptable with a LODA includes:
- Initial flight training for the operation of specific make and model of experimental aircraft.
- Recurrent flight training for the operation of a specific make and model of experimental aircraft.
- Instrument competency training for specific make and model of experimental aircraft.
- Training for a flight review in a specific make and model of experimental aircraft.
In addition to Glasair Aviation’s own instructors, other flight instructors approved to operate under Glasair’s LODA are:
- Richard Eastman, Newport Beach CA
- Richard Adams, Franktown CO
- Dan Dudley, Oregon WI
In addition to these newly approved instructors, GlaStar and Sportsman pilots can also train with Alan Negrin who obtained a LODA earlier and independently:
- Alan Negrin, Kirkland, WA
